Marvin

Marvin! Marvin! Raymond shouts at a whisper tone. Marvin I can’t see anything. Boo! Marvin yells as he pops out from a snow covered bush. Raymond giggles “You scared me I could’ve slipped on the ice!” Sorry I guess I get a little bored out here in the dark.  “Do you think that I could make it to April this year?” Marvin asks hopefully. You’re a snow man Marvin we can only hope.

The next morning Raymond wakes at eight o’clock, as usual. Where are you headed Raymond? His mom asks I’m going to play with Marvin! Raymond hollered. I’ll be back soon! What took you so long? Giggled Marvin. They walked across the street just when Robert comes along. “Playing with your snow man again Raymond?  Robert said in a mean voice. “Leave me alone Robert. You know your parents probably think you’re crazy! He’s nothing but a monster! Robert yelled, “Marvin the Momo Monster!” Stop calling him that he’s not a monster! He’s my friend!” Raymond stormed off with Marvin behind him.“Just ignore him Marvin he’s a big bully!” Raymond said with an angry tone.  Raymond, Marvin! Your lunch is ready! Raymond sat down with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and Marvin with a snow cone in hand.

I made Marvin when I was only two years old not knowing that he would soon become my best friend. Every year when the first snowflake falls, Marvin comes and the fun begins! Sadly every year he has to melt usually he makes it to about early march. “Why does he have to leave?” Raymond thought to himself. “Mom can Marvin stay for dinner tonight? Of course Marvin is welcome to stay anytime” 

Those last few weeks Marvin and I had together were the best weeks ever! We would sled, make cookies, every once in a while my mom would even take us ice skating. March came and we were looking towards the end. Marvin and I made as many memories that we could to last until the next winter.

The night came to take Marvin outside set him in the snow and say good bye. “This was the best winter yet!” Marvin said trying to cheer Raymond up. “That’s for sure, I just wish you could stay forever we could become”… Raymond looked at Marvin with a slight smile, “Become brothers.” Raymond gave Marvin a big hug, “I’ll see you next year” Said Raymond with a big grin. Raymond walked inside excited for next year when he rolls that first snow ball and sees his best friend again.

Santa's Always Watching

Authors Note: This was based off of inspiration and excitment everyone feels on Christmas Eve.On Christmas Eve my little brother, Gabe, never falls asleep because he's so excited and I always tell him santa has elves watching until you fall asleep, and it sparked a lot of memories once I heard our topic was "Watching Elves"

 

 

 

Tiny elf tip-toe upon the tree’s bristle’s
Try to take a peek of the children long asleep
One child wide awake excited for Christmas day
The Elf sitting with a sigh waiting for the boy to close his eyes

The boy fell asleep
The Elf hoping that would stay
And  the boy wakes up excited for Christmas day.

Author's Note: This is about children hoping for snow but it hasn't come yet. I can connect with this poem because this Christmas I definatley am pretty blue because it hasn't snowed yet this season.

Are they here? Are they here? young children yell.

They peek out side to see if the grass is covered with what looks like a blanket of cotton balls.

Walking to school on the plain green grass with a mope.

Recess comes with kids all glum

But just when a snowflake falls on one’s cheek

“Hurray Hurray”

It has snowed this week!

All the children smiling with glee

“This will be a great Christmas, a great Christmas indeed!”

Secret Letters from 0 to 10

Auhors Note: Live outside the box. Do things that you could look back and be proud of yourself and say, "I can't believe I actually did that." Live the life you would be proud to look back at.

Imagine living the same exact routine every day. Wake up every morning and eat the same breakfast, walk the same route to school, eat the same thing for lunch. That may not be the way you live, but it is the way Ernest does. Ever since Ernest’s mom died and his dad left, he’s lived with his Grandmother.  I can only imagine how hard it would be to be left alone by your parents. Ernest has never had any friends or anyone to talk to, besides when his grandmother isn’t sitting on the couch listening to the news or resting.

Diving deeper in the book Ernest found positive things when he always thought negative. Things were the exact opposite that he thought. Sometimes we find ourselves all worked up about feeling so lost looking for something when we never even started the search. Ernest felt like his dad has a banded him and that he never cared, but Ernest never tried and once he did he found that his dad sent him many letters, he just didn’t take the time to step out of his routine and live a little.

Feeling alone and empty minded, thoughts streaming through your mind. Why did my dad leave? Does he still love me? Why can’t I speak of him? Ernest found those answers and all he had to do was dig a little deeper. Hi s dad did love him and Ernest always thought opposite of that. Ernest would drag around those horrid questions all his life when he was waiting for the day to hear truth about his family. Ernest thought negative until he started looking and he found out everything was done for a good reason.

Letter to a Hero

Dear Solider,

Thank you so much for your time and care you put into this country. A lot of people over look the fact that there are millions of people fighting for us when they haven’t even met us before. You are a true hero to many people. I have you and everyone else who has ever been in the military in my prayers. God has used you for many wonderful things, he’s used you to save others lives and that is one thing that not everyone can say. I wish I could be there to give you a huge hug as you read this letter. We are so blessed to live in the country we live in, and you are one of the people who got to be a part of that. It took me a while to figure out other ways I could save others, I know that kind of seems impossible to a twelve year old. One thought came to my mind, I could step outside my house and there would be tons of people there who still haven’t heard the wonderful news God has to share. I may not have literally kept them from dyeing, but I know that they could forever change and become a part of God’s great family. God has for sure been with you, your, family and friends this whole journey.  My mom taught me to pray for solders and their families when I was little. That taught me how lucky I am to have a house, food, family, and even blankets to keep warm.  I want you to know how absolutely special you are to me. I wish you a safe journey and Happy Holidays!

Patriot's Pen

Authors Note: I am very proud of our country because we all work together when both rewarding and disappointments occur.

           

Would you sit down and think about how horrible things are or how things couldn’t be any worse? Or would you think about victories that have accomplished? I found our country to be very good at standing up after tragedies or being proud and respectful after victories.  Our country together can definitely do indescribable things as we work together.

In addition, Neil Armstrong, Martin Luther King Jr. Harriett Tubman, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, Pearl Harbor, United States stood tall through both victories and tragedies. Because of great citizens who stepped up to help in making our country a better and safer place. Martin Luther King Jr. Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman were just a few people who made a huge difference during slavery of African Americans. Neil Armstrong, a part of a huge victory for our country being first to the moon. 9/11, we are now in progress of building new buildings after the attack in honor of those who died and people who lost others close to them. Hurricane Katrina, many people stepped up helping out on cleaning up the storm and giving people comfort that lost their homes or family and friends.

If you ever ask me if I am proud of our country it will always be the same answer, no matter what is going on, because I know that our country can get through many things all together. I know that because we have proved it multiple times and the United States has much more to prove.

H2O Africa Foundation

Author's Note: I wrote about my view on how I think people should start to give more to others. In my essay is an example of a foundation that gives clean water to families in Africa. 

We should all start to help pitch in and give to the less fortunate. Some of us need to stop watching their flat screen T.V and give to others.

This year for my thirteenth birthday I gave up one thing I thought I’d never give up when it comes to my birthday. My presents, this year I’m raising money for a foundation called H2O Africa. Instead of my guests bringing presents for me they’re bringing money to donate for the kids in Africa. The money will go to missionaries that travel to Africa and give kids there clean and healthy water.

I think more people should start to participate in more organizations like this because after you help out it feels so good to know that you just helped save a child’s life. Some girls are upset because they can’t get that doll when others are upset because they can’t eat for the next 2 days. Some boys are upset because they can’t get a new skate board when others are upset because they don’t have a home.

If we all gave a small donation every month even once every year we could help change the world. Clothes, food, money, and toothbrushes. Surprisingly just that pair of shoes, just that box of rice would make the child’s week. Why do we waste our time complaining about things we can live without when people are waiting for a drink of water? 

My family has something that is called a sponsor child. A sponsor child is a child you are assigned to and you give them and their family $30 a month to help supply food, shelter, and clothing.

We all need to pitch in to help save the innocent lives of not only children but families. When ever I get the chance to help others I get feeling of accomplishment and proud of myself. I really think it's a big reward anytime you give to others.
