Dear New Student

 Dear New Student,
At our school it is the opposite of ordinary
swinging monkey, homework junkies
And sometime quite scary
Animals roaming the the hall
creepy critters that crawl
and a whole lot of explosions
Between witches with potions
and stinky erosion's
I guess you could say it’s a mad town
but to all the students here
it’s just a typical day at school
if you ignore the goo and gore
and come you may enjoy it just a little bit more.
Sincerely, New Fellow Student

My Delayed Trip to Emilee

Author's Note: In this piece, It is from the point of view of one of my presents for Christmas, a cell phone that I named Lawrence! Lawrence tells you how his trip to me was delayed and about his best cell friend Bruce!

Hello, I am Lawrence, Emilee’s cell phone she got for Christmas. She did not know I was coming! Sadly on my way I was put on something called back order so I am not with Emilee yet. Instead of her getting me on Christmas morning her dad put a picture of me in a card that said, “I will be here in 6 weeks!” Emilee decided to name me Lawrence while in she was with her friend Maria, Maria also named her phone. After lots of thinking Emilee thought of the name Lawrence. Maria found a name for her phone too, his name is Bruce, He’s my best cell. I’ve heard being some one's cellphone is so much fun. She will use me to call her friends and put cool ring tones on me. For now I am on my way to her and I will be with Emilee in 4 more weeks. Once I get to Emilee’s mailbox, I will be so excited to see Emilee and my best cell Bruce!

21 Centimeter Beetle Investigation

Author's Note: In my essay on 21 centimeter beetles I state my opinion that beetles of that size do not exist. I also support my opinion with various examples and reasons of how they don't exist.

Have you ever seen a 21 centimeter beetle before? That is our mission, to gather information to find if 21 centimeter beetles exist. This past school quarter we have been reading facts and doing experiments to resolve the problem. Our class has found possibilities that there may be such thing, but I do not think that 21 centimeter beetles are real.

In addition to my opinion, in our information packet we received in clue two it states, “As the exoskeleton tube gets larger, the material that it’s made of must get thicker, or the exoskeleton will collapse on itself.” In other words if the 21 centimeter is real its exoskeleton would be too heavy and collapse. Another statement was that, during an investigation done by K. Porter’s investigating team, they set out a light to attract insects to see if they may happen to find the answer, but the largest beetle they found was only 2 centimeters. K. Porter says, “If 21 centimeter beetles do exist they live a very secretive life.”  Furthermore, another clue from number five, it mentions, “Perhaps a large insect may have trouble finding enough food in a limited ecosystem such as that found on an island”. Meaning 21 centimeter beetles would probably eat anything they could to survive, someone had to of found them already if they were always searching for food. It also mentions in clue 2, “The exoskeleton is an efficient way for a small animal”. Meaning the exoskeleton is meant for smaller creatures, not like a 21 centimeter beetle. Another fact found, clue 3 says 15 to 17 centimeters is considered very large for insect and 21 centimeters would be abnormal for any insect. Lastly, in clue three it explains, “21-cm beetle’s legs would have to be short and thick to support its weight. Yet if its legs were too thick, they wouldn’t be able to move. In other words if there were such thing it would be very hard to because their legs would have to be so thick support its weight.
To conclude my essay, with all of the information discovered it is more likely that the 21 centimeter beetle is not real with the information we have gathered. We will have to see what else K. Porter, her research team, and the students involved in the investigation find. As told before, 21 centimeter beetles cannot possibly exist unless there is any more information we have yet to discover.

Marvin

Marvin! Marvin! Raymond shouts at a whisper tone. Marvin I can’t see anything. Boo! Marvin yells as he pops out from a snow covered bush. Raymond giggles “You scared me I could’ve slipped on the ice!” Sorry I guess I get a little bored out here in the dark.  “Do you think that I could make it to April this year?” Marvin asks hopefully. You’re a snow man Marvin we can only hope.

The next morning Raymond wakes at eight o’clock, as usual. Where are you headed Raymond? His mom asks I’m going to play with Marvin! Raymond hollered. I’ll be back soon! What took you so long? Giggled Marvin. They walked across the street just when Robert comes along. “Playing with your snow man again Raymond?  Robert said in a mean voice. “Leave me alone Robert. You know your parents probably think you’re crazy! He’s nothing but a monster! Robert yelled, “Marvin the Momo Monster!” Stop calling him that he’s not a monster! He’s my friend!” Raymond stormed off with Marvin behind him.“Just ignore him Marvin he’s a big bully!” Raymond said with an angry tone.  Raymond, Marvin! Your lunch is ready! Raymond sat down with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and Marvin with a snow cone in hand.

I made Marvin when I was only two years old not knowing that he would soon become my best friend. Every year when the first snowflake falls, Marvin comes and the fun begins! Sadly every year he has to melt usually he makes it to about early march. “Why does he have to leave?” Raymond thought to himself. “Mom can Marvin stay for dinner tonight? Of course Marvin is welcome to stay anytime”
Those last few weeks Marvin and I had together were the best weeks ever! We would sled, make cookies, every once in a while my mom would even take us ice skating. March came and we were looking towards the end. Marvin and I made as many memories that we could to last until the next winter.

The night came to take Marvin outside set him in the snow and say good bye. “This was the best winter yet!” Marvin said trying to cheer Raymond up. “That’s for sure, I just wish you could stay forever we could become”… Raymond looked at Marvin with a slight smile, “Become brothers.” Raymond gave Marvin a big hug, “I’ll see you next year” Said Raymond with a big grin. Raymond walked inside excited for next year when he rolls that first snow ball and sees his best friend again.

Winter

Author's Note: For writing circles our choice was to make a story or poem about our favorite season. I chose Winter. With snow falling, building snowmen and snow angels. Every one is so joyful!

Santa's Always Watching

Authors Note: This was based off of inspiration and excitment everyone feels on Christmas Eve.On Christmas Eve my little brother, Gabe, never falls asleep because he's so excited and I always tell him santa has elves watching until you fall asleep, and it sparked a lot of memories once I heard our topic was "Watching Elves"

Tiny elf tip-toe upon the tree’s bristle’s
Try to take a peek of the children long asleep
One child wide awake excited for Christmas day
The Elf sitting with a sigh waiting for the boy to close his eyes

The boy fell asleep
The Elf hoping that would stay
And  the boy wakes up excited for Christmas day.
